Mahant Amar Bharti Ji, a clerk from New Delhi, raised his right arm above his head in 1973 in honor of Shiva deity and since then never put it down. Despite pain and arm deformation, he managed to keep his arm raised for 38 years and counting.

How far would you go for your beliefs?

its really amazing and can done by indian baba’s only
Are you kidding me. As a god, why should they think this is awesome? This is a waste of time and a good human arm that could of been planting food and helping those with needs. Any higher power would only see this as foolish waste and so should you. Blind devotion is how evil works..
Most intelligent reply. If anyone knows an acetic who understand the Shiva tribute, we would all enjoy to hear how this man’s act servers better than his able-bodied service to to people, temple, etc
For the love of Shiva, someone please call on that man! His question must be of cosmic importance!
What does he do when he sleeps? You’re telling me that every single night for 38 years he propped/tied his arm up?
Insane, abhorrent, and repulsive.
At this point, I’m sure the soft tissue has all adhered, so he basically has a “frozen shoulder”, which he could not put down if he tried. All the muscles have atrophied. What I’m not sure of is if it is painful at this point, or if his nerves and circulatory system have adapted enough to the constant elevated position.
Eternal fist pumper, I salute you.
ReallY- I disagree with your statement. We don’t know any God’s thoughts on what we do. What if this man served as someone who helped another with their beliefs? I am amazed that this man did this for his beliefs and never gave up. That is true trust and love for the God of your religion.
I have some major respect for him.
Very interesting read
Yes, you may go to the restroom.
not only does his arm disable him from helping others but he most likely requires someone else to care for him. this is foolish.
main thought: amazing that people will deform themselves for false gods.
other thoughts: this however does serve to help science. but just because you “help” science doesn’t mean your doing anything noble. you have to remember the nazi’s “helped” science by doing horrible/degrading things to the jews.
final thought: if you have a problem with anything i’ve said, you can direct your concerns to life.
so his wife can wait on him all day and he doesnt have to work. good excuse to me.
@thoughts: “you have to remember the nazi’s “helped” science by doing horrible/degrading things to the jews.”
Godwin’s law.. really?
do any of you have any concept of the religious culture of India? Of Hinduism? You shouldn’t make statements like the ones below without understanding the fundamentals of the religion that these people are engrossed in. It’s not wrong. It’s not ridiculous. It’s not stupid. This man is showing his eternal devotion to his own God. At least take a look at the wiki page on Hinduism and see what the religion is about before blindly judging this man.
exactly.
Really? I think it takes a certain amount of strength, not necessarily insanity, to do something like this. I will admit, it is odd and no, I can’t see why this would be a relevant/appropriate form or worship, but it’s something he’s doing for himself that makes him feel closer to the god he worships. He’s not doing anything to hurt anyone. He’s doesn’t have a bomb strapped to his chest. I don’t mean for that last comment to be in poor taste, I just want to emphasize that there are much crazier/harmful things one could do in honor of deity. Let this guy do his thing and don’t worry about it if he ain’t worried about it.
All the responses I’ve read are a disgrace to free human expression. I will venture a guess, if it makes a difference to anyone after they’ve died, that man will be remembered long after his death for this one act of love for his God than most who have responded for their most cherished act of love toward their most cherished love. Many claim a love and DO NOTHING AT ALL. Beautiful.
It’s cool to leave your comment on facebook, NOPE!
It just goes to show how stupid and ridiculous religion is. Any religion. What a pointless way to spend one’s life.
Natural selection at work
lan bari sol eli havaya kaldırsaydın amk. sağ elim aslan elim diye boşuna mı diyor şair. nasıl çekicen osbiri. ama ben solağım diyorsan başka. yine de sağ elin verdiği zevki vermez. benden söylemesi.
Simply= dickhead. Be human, cut your disgusting nails sir! (and arm down) Stupid!
Idiotic! go do something useful, aren’t there people starving there?
Sorry I don’t get it. If I thought my god would feel honerd if I did such a thing I’d soon start to thinking that he has a sense of humor.
This man has accomplished something that would have been deemed impossible had he not done it. The devotion, will power, mental strength and suffering this man has gone through has taken him to a different level of consciousness, which most of us will never be dedicated enough to experience. In the end religion is only his motivation and inspiration, but what he has achieved is far superior. As much as some people will think this is unnecessary or stupid, this has affected you in some way, that’s all that really matters.
Also all the people who are commenting that he could do something far more useful to the world with his 1 hand available, what are u doing with both your hands to help? Much easier to type useless comments on the web and read this article than to go feed a dying baby, isn’t it.
must be a damned good wheed he’s smoking. but maybe he’s just raising his hand for a cab…and cabs they don’t stop to drug suckers
Religion, ALL religion is a myth. There are NO Gods, NONE, and never were. Religion does not help or heal or educate, it retards, causes hate and division, and rewards only the leaders–especially the very wealthy Catholics and TV evangelists. There is absolutely no sense to prayer. Prayer does nothing, ever. The Bible is a book for frightened people who have no self confidence. Religion is continued through the infantile fears (brainwashing) the parents place in their children’s minds. Very difficult to remove, completely false and responsible for extremely reduce capability in logical thinking abilities and survival when situations worsen. There is no such thing as a “good religion”
