In Nepal, policemen patrol streets holding hands

April 26, 2011

In Nepal, it is not unusual to see friends of the same sex holding hands in public. It is even okay to grab your friend’s arm or put your arm around your friend. And it is not a sign of being gay – not at all. It is a sign of strong friendship that is socially accepted. It is not accepted, however, if the same sex couples kiss in public or even hold hands if they have feelings other than friendship.

So you say you know something about male friendship?

I was also surprised to learn that in certain Arabic countries, such as Bahrain, males too can walk holding hands and be seen as nothing more than just friends.
